چکیده
Although community colleges are increasingly diverse, student outcomes across demographics not necessarily equitable, nor does the representation of in a given class always reflect diversity greater institutional population. To achieve colleges’ stated and equity goals, we must broaden participation our classrooms through inclusive teaching practices. This chapter shares stories four college faculty change agents STEM who have implemented broadening strategies. Specifically, authors discuss how to build sense belonging, support classroom conversations on diversity, incorporate diverse perspectives into curricula, success all students. Finally, recommend actions for individual faculty, communities practice, institutions, surrounding spur culture help inclusion.

Inclusive Design in IS: Why Diversity Matters
After decades of research and ambitious political programs, we still observe imbalances in the treatment of people on the basis of gender, age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, disability, and social background. Such an issue raises questions about the degree to which information systems can help to overcome such imbalance; for instance, if design principles can be formalized to r...
متن کاملcSELF (Computer Science Education from Life): Broadening Participation through Design Agency
The phrase “broadening participation” is often used to describe efforts to decrease the race and gender gap in science and engineering education, and in this paper the authors describe an educational program focused on addressing the lower achievement rates and career interests of underrepresented ethnic groups (African American, Native American, and Latino students). However “broadening partic...

In this time of polarization and divisiveness across increasingly diverse communities, health policy and management research offers an important insight: engaging diversity meaningfully through inclusive leadership—that embraces staff across hierarchies and engages difference perspectives so that all healthcare workers of all kinds feel they can speak up and participate...
متن کاملRobust Design through Diversity
Computer Science is in deep trouble. Structured design is a failure. Systems, as currently engineered, are brittle and fragile. They cannot be easily adapted to new situations. Small changes in requirements entail large changes in the structure and configuration. Small errors in the programs that prescribe the behavior of the system can lead to large errors in the desired behavior. Indeed, curr...

This discussion examines some of the major issues and attributes of culturally responsive teaching. It begins with explaining my views of culturally responsive teaching and how I incorporate cultural responsiveness in my writing to teach readers what it means. These general conceptual frameworks are followed by a discussion of some specific actions essential to its implementation. They are rest...
